Dig Energy, a geothermal energy company, today announced it broke ground on and completed its first paid commercial installation. The Massachusetts-based project installed geothermal heating and cooling at 100MAG, Suffolk’s AI and innovation hub adjacent to Suffolk headquarters in Boston. Suffolk is one of the country’s most innovative and successful builders.

Dig Energy’s drill operating at 100MAG site
The physics and operational economics of geothermal have been proven for over a century, but implementation has been stymied by high drilling and installation costs. Dig’s compact, modular rig was built to solve those challenges, specifically. The project at Suffolk’s 100MAG is the first to demonstrate Dig’s drill in the field with boreholes serving an individual building, installed on an active commercial jobsite. The technology runs with a fraction of the crew, footprint, and disruption of conventional drilling equipment, and the active work area at any given time occupies just a few parking spaces.
Site drilling at 100MAG began in early August and was completed in approximately two weeks.
“Suffolk has led some of the most complex and sophisticated construction projects in the country and has a high bar for its partners to deliver exceptional quality at scale,” said Dulcie Madden, co-founder and CEO of Dig Energy. “This project is exactly the type of environment where the Dig technology excels: a tight lot, operating under a quick, live schedule. We’re proud to be able to fit seamlessly into their infrastructure and be a key part of accelerating progress from initial design and permitting through drilling and building. We see our drilling technology as fitting right into Suffolk’s campus.”
Suffolk Technologies, the venture capital affiliate of Suffolk, is also an investor in Dig through its BOOST 6 accelerator, which brings emerging technologies onto properties and projects around the globe through Suffolk and a network of industry partners. Using Dig gives Suffolk a live deployment of geothermal, enabling the national general contractor to better evaluate the scale and affordability of the energy source for future commercial jobs.
“Dig Energy represents the kind of innovation Suffolk Technologies is looking to support,” said Parker Mundt, Partner, Platform at Suffolk Technologies. “At 100MAG, Dig has demonstrated how its purpose-built, compact drilling platform can reduce the cost and complexity of geothermal deployment, helping make low-carbon energy infrastructure more practical and scalable for urban and commercial buildings. The project also demonstrates how Suffolk combines strategic investment with real-world deployment to accelerate the adoption of transformative technologies and advance the future of the built environment.”
Suffolk works with clients across the U.S. already investing heavily in geothermal and on-site energy infrastructure, including education and data centers, two of Dig’s core growth markets. In the coming months, Dig plans to deploy additional New England projects, including a grocery store, a utility headquarters, and a small campus.
About Dig Energy
Dig Energy makes geothermal heating, cooling, and refrigeration accessible and affordable at commercial scale. The company’s proprietary drilling platform cuts borehole installation costs by 80%, removing the single largest barrier to geothermal adoption. Applications include commercial buildings, data centers, grocery stores, and campuses. Dig was founded by engineers with deep roots in mechanical systems, real estate, and energy systems, and is backed by Azolla Ventures, Avila VC, Baukunst, Conifer Infrastructure Partners, Drew Scott, Suffolk Technologies, Mercator Partners, Koa Labs, Incite, and is advised by Jesse Jenkins.
