Expansion will bring more than 60 years of specialized expertise in language-based learning differences and early intervention to Brooklyn families

New York, NY August 31, 2026 –(PR.com)– Stephen Gaynor School, a nationally recognized independent school serving students with language-based learning differences located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, has announced plans to expand its Early Childhood program into Brooklyn following approval by the School’s Board of Trustees.

The expansion reflects growing demand from families seeking specialized, evidence-based early intervention and literacy instruction closer to home, as well as a clear and growing need for more early childhood support options for students with language-based learning differences in Brooklyn. For years, many Brooklyn families have expressed strong interest in Stephen Gaynor School’s approach but found a daily commute to the School’s Upper West Side campus impractical for young children.

The new Stephen Gaynor School Brooklyn Early Childhood Center (Brooklyn ECC) will bring Gaynor’s more than six decades of expertise in individualized, multi-sensory instruction, including its deeply rooted Orton-Gillingham approach, to more students during the critical early years of learning and development.

Founded in 1962, Stephen Gaynor School serves bright students with language-based learning differences through a personalized educational model that integrates evidence-based instruction with social-emotional support and small classroom environments. Gaynor is one of only a small number of schools nationwide accredited by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, and the only school in New York with that distinction.

The Brooklyn ECC is being thoughtfully designed as an Early Childhood Center focused on the foundational years when targeted support and intervention can have the greatest impact. The expansion represents an important opportunity to extend Gaynor’s mission and bring its expertise to more children and families across New York City during these critical early years of development.

The Brooklyn ECC is anticipated to open in Fall 2028. Additional details regarding its location, admissions, programming, and launch timeline will be announced as planning progresses.
