The owner of the property is Vitus Group. The Architect for the project is True Craft Architecture. The lenders on the project are Merchants Bank and HUD.

Stuart Gardens consists of 491 units throughout 109 garden-style buildings on 40 acres. It was originally built in 1941 as a defense housing project for military personnel and civilian wartime workers during World War II and is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register as a notable historic wartime housing community.

The enhancements included as part of this renovation are:

  • Interior units will have updated kitchens and baths with all new plumbing fixtures, fresh paint, new cabinetry, new countertops, new appliances, new flooring, new lighting fixtures, new bathroom upgrades including tub/shower surrounds, and new energy-efficient water heaters.

  • Exterior improvements will include new roofs, gutters and downspouts, new insulation and exterior repairs, 100% new sheathing, weather barrier and siding, new railings, new windows, doors and paint, new exterior lighting, and restructuring and repair of the crawl spaces.

  • Common area enhancements will include an updated community room with a new kitchen area, bathroom, signage, and new paint throughout. Postal facilities and playground enhancements with new equipment are also planned.

  • Additional site work will include asphalt, paving, concrete, sidewalk, and landscaping upgrades.
