Former Rite Aid Space to Become 12,000-Square-Foot Neighborhood Grocery Store, Completing Major Leasing Milestone at Landmark Squirrel Hill Property
Brandywine Communities today announced that the former Rite Aid space at The Brandywine, located at the prominent intersection of Forbes and Murray Avenues in the heart of Squirrel Hill, has been fully leased to Murray’s Market, a new 12,000-square-foot neighborhood grocery store that will serve the entire community.
The announcement marks another major milestone in the ongoing revitalization of the iconic property, which Brandywine Communities acquired in late 2025 with a vision of restoring one of Squirrel Hill’s most recognizable commercial buildings into a vibrant destination for businesses, residents, and visitors alike.
Murray’s Market will feature fresh produce, premium meats, baked goods, prepared foods, kosher grocery offerings, and everyday household essentials in a clean, modern shopping environment designed to welcome everyone.

The grocery store fills one of the largest remaining vacancies in the building and restores an essential neighborhood service at a location that has long served as a retail anchor for the community.

The announcement builds on the leasing momentum Brandywine Communities shared earlier this year. The building’s second floor is now fully leased to Techstra Solutions, Pittsburgh City Paper, Generation Dental and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, all of whom are expected to occupy their newly remodeled offices later this year.
With the addition of Murray’s Market, The Brandywine continues its transformation into a thriving mixed-use destination featuring neighborhood retail, professional office space, and long-term investment in one of Pittsburgh’s most vibrant business districts.
Renovations are underway throughout the property. Murray’s Market is expected to begin construction in the coming months, with opening details to be announced at a later date.
