NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — AI assistants are transforming how people search for hotel rooms, and new data from HotelsByDay reveals how rapidly this trend is growing. AI-referred bookings on the platform rose 422% from September 2025 through August 2026 compared with the prior 12 months. In September 2026, AI referrals accounted for 13.8% of all HotelsByDay bookings, up from 2.1% in September 2025.
“Travelers already ask ChatGPT where to stay. Next they’ll say, ‘ChatGPT, book me a flight to Chicago tomorrow,’ and expect a day-use hotel room to come with it when their layover is longer than three hours,” said Yannis Moati, Founder and CEO of HotelsByDay. “We’re the only dedicated day-use platform where guests can pay online for the room rate, taxes and applicable fees on eligible bookings. That puts us in a strong position for AI-assisted hotel booking.”
The Numbers
In September 2026, AI-referred bookings increased 558% compared with September 2025, while the conversion rate for AI-referred visitors improved 152%. ChatGPT remains the dominant source of AI-referred bookings, ahead of Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot.
Some AI traffic arrives without identifiable referral information and is classified as direct traffic, meaning actual AI-driven activity may be higher.
Methodology: HotelsByDay Google Analytics data comparing September 2024 through August 2025 with September 2025 through August 2026, plus September 2025 and September 2026 year-over-year comparisons.
ChatGPT Navigates to Hotel Checkout
In a November 2026 demonstration, Merideth Sweeney, Content Strategy Manager at HotelsByDay, used ChatGPT to find a day-use hotel room and reach checkout.
The initial prompt was:
“Go to hotelsbyday.com and book a day-use room for me in Miami on November 2, 2026, from 9 am to 3 pm, for 2 guests. Choose the lowest-priced available option.”
ChatGPT searched available rooms, compared rates and navigated to checkout. The room rate, taxes and processing fee were displayed, ready for the guest to complete payment.
Why Full Online Payment Matters
On eligible reservations, guests can pay the room rate, taxes and applicable fees online by credit card. HotelsByDay does not charge a separate booking fee. Certain hotel-imposed charges, including resort fees, may still be collected at the property.
This payment capability connects AI-assisted hotel discovery with online checkout and payment for eligible reservations.
Example AI Booking Prompt
Guests can ask AI assistants to find day-use hotel rooms using conversational requests, such as:
“Please book me a day-use hotel in Miami between my two long-haul flights.”
The assistant can then help identify available hotels, compare rates and navigate to checkout, where guests can review the total price and complete payment.
